Austria Directly

Austria may not be the first European country travellers think of when planning a trip, but it is a historic country that showcases a number of beautiful landmarks that must be seen.

In 2018, Austria welcomed 40.1 million international and domestic tourists. Many of these travellers experienced the country’s incredible cities such as Vienna and Salzburg. Others explored beyond the cities’ borders to visit the incredible natural beauty of the land and its countryside history.

A number of Palaces and castles were built across Austria over the centuries. Everywhere travellers turn, they will find palaces and castle ruins or grandiose buildings. Eggenberg Palace, Hohenwerfen Castle, and Aggstein Castle are three popular tourist sites. Each palace and castle display the history of the country. Many have been restored to show visitors just how Austrian royalty lived hundreds of years ago.

Outside of Austria’s history rich cities lie some of the most dramatic landscapes in Europe. Austria is a land of lush forests, shimmering lakes, and rugged snow-capped mountains. Autumn is a perfect time for hiking Austria’s inviting outdoors. The Austrian Alps do not get the same love the Switzerland mountains do; yet, they are just as wonderful to explore. The Austrian Alps are the perfect backdrop to a ski resort holiday. In the warmer months, mountain biking, trekking, and climbing are activities many visitors take part in.

Even in Austria’s big cities such as Vienna, nature is combined with the boulevards and buildings. Vienna posses 280 imperial parks and gardens. It is an incredible number of greenspaces that allow visitors to find a break from the city around nearly every corner. Not only are the parks a great draw for visitors to see, but so is the amazing Viennese architecture. Visitors will see a collection of architecture styles including Baroque, Art Nouveau, and Gothic around the city.

Vienna’s coffeehouse are second to none and it is the Austrian capital that cultivated European coffeehouse culture. The traditional coffeehouses are extremely elegant and serve up everything from delicious drinks to unbelievable handmade cakes and pastries.

Austria’s quaint villages are charming, and inviting. Visitors can be transformed back in time by Austria’s classic looking villages and stay outside of the country’s big cities on a countryside escape. Graz is a city of immense history that attracts visitors to see its 17th century history. The Armoury of Graz is one of the greatest collections of armour and weapons in the world. The large armoury is home to 32,000 items. The armoury is a step back in time and looks at some of the incredible weapons used to protect Graz centuries ago.

Back in Austria’s capital city, Vienna, travellers will find the country’s music and art heart and soul. Vienna was central to music legends Mozart, Wagner, and Strauss. The works of the legendary musicians are still loved today.

Salzburg has its own wonderful culture stops. The Museum of Modern Art is a popular gallery that displays some of Austria’s incredible history along with the country’s music scene.

Austria is a beautiful country that attracts millions of domestic and international visitors each year. It is a country of cool cities and amazing landscapes that shouldn't be missed this year.
